Privacy Policy

PlantaeLight LLC ("we", "us", or "our") operates the PlantaeLight mobile application, the companion web dashboard at app.plantaelight.com, and our PlantaeLight hardware devices (collectively, the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your information when you use the App.

If you use the social features of the App (Feed, Explore, Profile), we additionally collect and process:

4. SMS / Text Messaging

If you provide your mobile phone number and opt in, PlantaeLight may send you SMS text messages for the following transactional purposes only:

How you opt in. We will only text you after you have actively provided your phone number — for example, by entering it during account setup, enabling SMS-based 2FA in Profile → ⚙️ → Account → Security, providing it at checkout when ordering hardware, or turning on activity SMS in Profile → ⚙️ → Notifications → SMS. Each opt-in is specific to its purpose; enabling SMS 2FA does not enable shipping or activity texts, and vice versa.

Message frequency. Frequency varies based on your activity. Account-security texts are sent on demand (typically only when you sign in from a new device or recover your account). Shipping texts are sent up to a handful of times per order. Account-activity texts depend on the accounts you follow and on engagement with your published content; we rate-limit them to a small number per day per category, and you can adjust each category individually. We do not send recurring marketing or promotional texts.

Message and data rates. Standard message and data rates from your mobile carrier may apply. PlantaeLight does not charge you for SMS messages, but your carrier may.

How to stop. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any PlantaeLight SMS message. You will receive a single confirmation text and will not be sent further messages of that category. To resume, reply START or re-enable the relevant feature in the App. Reply HELP for help, or contact support@plantaelight.com.

Carriers. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. SMS is supported on all major U.S. mobile carriers; international support depends on your carrier and country.

No sharing of mobile information for marketing. We will not share, sell, rent, or otherwise disclose your mobile phone number, SMS opt-in status, or SMS consent records to any third party or affiliate for their marketing or promotional purposes. The only third parties that receive your phone number are our SMS gateway subprocessor (which delivers the text on our behalf) and, for shipping texts, the shipping carrier whose tracking-update SMS you receive. Information sharing to subcontractors performing support services on our behalf, such as the SMS gateway and customer support, is permitted under this Policy.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information. We use the following service providers ("subprocessors") to operate the App:

Public-by-design data. Any content you publish (public recipes, ratings, reviews, "I grew this" markers, forks, public collections, public profile fields, opt-in map presence) is visible to anyone using the App or our public web pages. You can change visibility at any time, but copies that were already viewed, cached, or referenced (for example a fork of your recipe) cannot be retroactively recalled.

Legal disclosures. We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of PlantaeLight, our users, or the public.

All communication between the App and our servers is encrypted using TLS. Authentication is handled by AWS Cognito with industry-standard security practices. Device communication uses AWS IoT Core with mutual TLS certificate authentication. Sensitive credentials (passwords, API keys) are never logged.

9. Children's Privacy

The App is not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you become aware that a child has provided us with personal information, contact us so we can delete it.

10. International Transfers

Your data is primarily stored in the European Union (Frankfurt). Some subprocessors (Apple, Google, Stripe) may process limited data outside the EU; in such cases we rely on standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the App or by email at least 30 days before they take effect.
