Terms of Service
Effective date: April 30, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the PlantaeLight mobile application, the companion web dashboard at app.plantaelight.com, the PlantaeLight community features, and our PlantaeLight hardware (collectively, the "App") provided by PlantaeLight LLC ("we", "us", or "our"). By creating an account or using the App, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy.
1. Account Registration
- You must create an account using a valid email address, Sign in with Apple, or Sign in with Google.
- You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.
- You may optionally claim a public username (handle) to participate in the community features. You are responsible for the username you pick and may not impersonate another person, brand, or PlantaeLight itself.
- You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity under your account. Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized use.
- One person, one account. Creating accounts to evade suspensions, manipulate ratings, or otherwise abuse the App is prohibited.
2. PlantaeLight Devices
- The App is designed to control PlantaeLight grow-light hardware.
- By setting up a device, you confirm that you own or have permission to configure the device.
- During setup, your WiFi network credentials are transmitted directly to the device. We do not store your WiFi password on our servers.
- Firmware updates are delivered over-the-air. Do not disconnect your device from power during a firmware update.
3. Subscriptions & Purchases
- PlantaeLight Pro is an optional annual subscription that unlocks fine-grained light control, custom recipes, automated scheduling, device groups, and the web dashboard.
- Subscriptions can be purchased via the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, or directly on the web via Stripe at app.plantaelight.com.
- Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period.
- App Store and Play Store subscriptions are managed in those stores' subscription settings. Web/Stripe subscriptions are currently cancelled by emailing support@plantaelight.com.
- Individual recipe unlocks. Some specialty recipes are available as one-time purchases. They are tied to your PlantaeLight account and remain unlocked even if your Pro subscription lapses.
- Refunds. App Store and Play Store refunds are handled by Apple and Google according to their respective policies. Stripe-billed subscriptions are refundable through us at our reasonable discretion within 14 days of payment.
4. Your Content
"Your Content" means the recipes, reviews, ratings, profile information (display name, bio, avatar, location), collections, and any other material you submit, post, or publish through the App.
- You retain all ownership rights in Your Content.
- By submitting Your Content, you grant PlantaeLight a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive, sublicensable license to host, store, reproduce, modify (for formatting), distribute, publicly display, and perform Your Content solely for the purpose of operating, providing, and improving the App and our services. This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except where retention is required for the operation of the platform (for example, ratings already aggregated into a public average, or a recipe that other users have already forked).
- By marking a recipe or collection as Public, you grant other users of the App a license to view, save (bookmark), and fork (create a derivative copy of) your recipe through the App's built-in mechanisms. Forks are credited to your recipe via the App's lineage view.
- You represent and warrant that you own Your Content or have all necessary rights to grant the licenses above, and that Your Content does not infringe any third party's rights.
- We are not obligated to host Your Content indefinitely. We may remove or restrict access to Your Content if it violates these Terms.
5. Acceptable Use & Community Standards
The full conduct rules, the kinds of content we remove, and how reports are handled are set out in our Community Guidelines. The Guidelines are part of these Terms by reference. Without limiting the Guidelines, you agree not to:
- Use the App for any unlawful purpose, or to facilitate unlawful activity (including the cultivation of plants prohibited by the laws applicable to you).
- Post or distribute content that is harassing, threatening, hateful, defamatory, obscene, sexually explicit, or that promotes violence, self-harm, or discrimination.
- Spam, scrape, scam, phish, or send unsolicited promotional content to other users.
- Impersonate another person, brand, or PlantaeLight, or misrepresent your affiliation.
- Post content that infringes anyone's intellectual property rights, privacy, publicity, contractual, or other rights.
- Attempt to manipulate ratings, follower counts, badges, or any other social signal — including by creating multiple accounts, coordinating with others, or automated activity.
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble, or otherwise attempt to derive the source code of the App, except where this restriction is prohibited by applicable law.
- Interfere with, disrupt, probe, or test the resilience of the App's servers, networks, or rate limits.
- Access another user's account, profile data, or devices without authorization.
- Use the App to control PlantaeLight devices you do not own or have explicit permission to operate.
- Use the App to develop a competing product or to scrape user-generated content for inclusion in another service.
6. Reports, Moderation & Enforcement
- Reporting. You can report a profile, recipe, or review through the App's overflow menu (… → Report). Reports go to PlantaeLight staff for review.
- Response time. We review reports of objectionable, abusive, or illegal content within 24 hours and act — remove the content, suspend the account, or both — as soon as the report is confirmed. Urgent reports (CSAM, imminent threats) are escalated immediately.
- Automated filtering. A content filter runs at write time on usernames, display names, recipe names (when published publicly), bios, ratings/reviews, and reports. It catches the most obvious abuse but is not a substitute for human moderation.
- Blocking. You can block another user from their profile. Blocking hides each party's content from the other; it is not a substitute for a report.
- Our actions. We may, at our reasonable discretion and without prior notice: remove or restrict Your Content; limit or revoke your ability to publish, follow, rate, review, or message; suspend or terminate your account; or report illegal activity to the appropriate authorities. We will normally try to give you notice and an opportunity to respond, except where the violation is severe, ongoing, or where doing so would create further harm.
- Appeals. If you believe a decision was made in error, you may appeal by emailing support@plantaelight.com within 30 days of the action. We respond to appeals within 7 days.
- Reports made in bad faith. Filing knowingly false reports is a violation of these Terms.
7. Verified Creator Badge
- The verified-creator badge identifies an account that PlantaeLight has confirmed represents the genuine person, brand, or organization it claims to be.
- Verification is granted at our sole discretion and may be revoked at any time, including (but not limited to) for violations of these Terms, changes in account ownership, prolonged inactivity, or attempts to manipulate the program.
- The verified badge is a status indicator, not an endorsement of the content the verified account publishes.
- Information you submit when applying for verification (your reason and identity-proof links) is reviewed by PlantaeLight staff and handled per our Privacy Policy.
8. Intellectual Property & Copyright
- The App, including its design, code, content, branding, and the PlantaeLight name and logo, is owned by PlantaeLight LLC and protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual-property laws.
- You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App for its intended personal and non-commercial purpose, plus any commercial use expressly permitted by your subscription.
- Copyright complaints. If you believe content on the App infringes your copyright, send a notice to support@plantaelight.com with: (a) identification of the copyrighted work; (b) the URL or in-App location of the allegedly infringing material; (c) your contact details; (d) a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is unauthorized; (e) a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and that you are authorized to act; and (f) your physical or electronic signature. We will respond in accordance with applicable copyright law (including, where applicable, the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act).
9. Light Recipes & Growing Results
Pre-built and community-published light recipes are provided for informational purposes. Growing outcomes depend on many factors including plant species, environment, and hardware configuration. We make no guarantees about specific outcomes from following any recipe, regardless of who published it. Always exercise your own judgment.
10. Limitation of Liability
- The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, except where prohibited by law.
- We are not responsible for damage to your plants, devices, or property resulting from use of the App.
- We are not responsible for network disruptions, power outages, device malfunctions, third-party service outages, or any other event that may interrupt scheduled light programs.
- We are not responsible for the conduct of other users, the content they publish, or any interactions between users.
- To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the App is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the App or your subscription in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) USD 50.
- Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitation of certain damages — in those jurisdictions, the above limitations apply to the maximum extent permitted by law.
11. Account Termination
- You may delete your account at any time from Profile → ⚙️ → Account → Delete account. Your data will be handled per our Privacy Policy.
- We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms or applicable law.
- Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including ownership of Your Content's existing public effects, intellectual-property provisions, limitation of liability, indemnification, and governing law) survive after your account ends.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. For material changes, we will notify you through the App or by email at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use of the App after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
13. Governing Law & Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Tennessee, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions. Any disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or the App shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Davidson County, Tennessee, except where applicable consumer-protection law gives you the right to bring a claim in your country of residence.
